Dart

The Dart begins as two rivers high on scenic Dartmoor. The West Dart rises above Princetown, (known for Dartmoor prison), and links with a number of small tributaries before joining with the East Dart, which flows from the other side of the famous moor, at Dartmeet. From here the Dart flows down via Buckfastleigh and Totnes to enter the English Channel at Dartmouth. It is a game river containing salmon and sea and brown trout. In the lower reaches, the best time for salmon is in the spring. Higher up river, the salmon fishing improves as September approaches. The sea trout fishing is generally at peak between July and September. Ticket opportunities are good and in the upstream area around Princetown, where much of the fishing is controlled by the Duchy of Cornwall, there are facilities on the Dart and on its tributaries.
