Rising near Brown Willy (1,377 feet) on Bodmin Moor, the Fowey first skirts Liskeard to the east and Bodmin to the west before entering its long estuary at Lostwithiel. It is another Cornish salmon river with a late run which explains why salmon fishing remains open until Dec 15. These fish start to move up the Fowey in numbers in autumn. Sea trout, best sought at night, start moving in from late April or early May, the heavier the water the earlier. The Fowey is rated one of Cornwall’s two best sea trout rivers (the other being the Camel). Brown trout fishing on this river is considered best from Draynes Bridge upstream.
