Helmsdale

An excellent, if rather private, salmon fishery where general public access is not readily available. Like the Thurso, the season opens on 11th January and fresh fish can be taken from the opening day subject to water and weather conditions.

Like many other Scottish waters the Helmsdale has suffered a shortage of ‘springers’ in recent seasons but the summer fishing can be splendid in a river with a useful salmon fishing length of some 20 miles. Fly only is the rule. Trout fishing is not good. SOS: Feb 11-Aug 26 (Net); Jan 11-Sept 30 (R&L) Hinnisdal. See Isle of Skye Horavaig. See Isle of Skye
