The Irvine is perhaps best known as a trout water of some quality but has showed signs of improving its salmon and sea-trout sport, albeit in a modest way. Public fishing readily available. Trouting is probably best in the Newmilns and Darvel areas.

Not strictly an Irvine tributary as it is more a question of a meeting of estuaries, the Garnock, rises north of Kilbirnie to flow south through Dairy and Kilwinning to enter its estuary. It offers trout, sea trout and salmon.
