Kent is rich in stillwaters offering trout and coarse fishing but many are controlled by private syndicates or associations. Certain of the coarse fishing waters are specially noted for specimen carp, a number over 30 lb having been reported in recent seasons, the captor invariably declining to specify exactly which water his fish came from! It is believed that it was Kentish carp fishers who sparked off the current and still developing trend towards special high protein baits for these fish, often with dramatic results.
