The Leven drains Windermere flowing via Newby Bridge to enter Morecambe Bay at Greenodd. A game river containing sea and brown trout and salmon, the Leven also has stocks of pike and perch. Almost entirely private, there is, however, a little free fishing near the outfall from Windermere at Lake Side.

This is not the short beck running into Ullswater, but a much larger stream rising in Grizedale Forest and flowing through Satterthwaite to become Rusland Pool to meet the Leven near Haverthwaite.
