The largest of the Outer Hebridean islands, Lewis is said to contain more than 600 lochs. Salmon fishing is not easy to come by in a casual way especially if you consider that the famous Grimersta fishings fall within the orbit of this water-rich territory. It was on a loch in this chain of fishings that a Mr Naylor landed 54 salmon on the fly in one day in the 1880s, still a British and maybe a world record. Trout fishing is freely available on numerous waters. Stornoway, with car landing facilities, is as good a central base as any but other hotels can arrange fishings.
