Market Weighton Canal

Once a mecca for East Yorkshire coarse fishermen, this canal has produced variable results in recent years though the Yorkshire Water Authority claim a good head of bronze and silver bream, roach, dace, chub and pike is still to be found there. It begins at Market Weighton and flows via Newport, the best known centre, to enter the Humber through Broomfleet Lock. Its flow can be strongly affected by spates and low tides. Fishing isfree to Authority rod licence holders. Permission for matches can be obtained from the Authority’s offices at 37, North Bar Within, Beverley. Rod Licence: YWA
