Ribble day tickets

Most fishing from the source to Helwith Bridge near Horton in Ribblesdale is preserved by the Man-chester Angling Association for members only. Between Mere Beck and Stainworth the river is mostly controlled by the Settle Anglers’ Association. Day tickets are avail-able during licensing hours from the Royal Oak Hotel, or in advance from R Welsh, Midland Bank Ltd, Settle. Downstream, the Long Preston Angling Club have a mile of good fishing with permits from R Ellershaw, The Green, Long Preston. The Boars Head Hotel also has fishing. Blackburn and District Angling Association controls waters with day tickets for members’ friends, and another % miles stretch from Low Bridge where day tickets are available along the bank.

At Sawley the Yorkshire Federation of Fishing Clubs has water, and at Chatburn the Clitheroe Angling Association has a lengthy fishery. The Ribble Valley Borough Council have fishing at Edisford Bridge with day tickets from the Tackle Shop in Clitheroe, and nearby, the Roefield Hotel has day-ticket water, with permits also obtainable for the lengthy right-bank CWS Angling Club waters. They also control a stretch on the River Hodder.

The North West Water Authority’s Mitton Fishery allows ten daily permits from Mitton Bridge to Calder Foot along the south bank, four permits for the bridge to Hodder Foot, and 12 permits from Mitton Wood to Calder Foot (25 permits from 31 October to 31 January). These are obtained from Mitton Hall Farm, Mitton near Whalley.

Free fishing is available for about 300 yards of bank below Ribchester Bridge and day tickets are available for a mile of right-bank fishing upstream to Marlswood. The Northern Anglers’ Association controls a considerable amount of fishing at the Preston Centre, having both banks upstream from Liverpool Road bridge. The Ribble and Wyre Fishing Association then has water from Ribblesdale Farm upstream to Salmesbury Church while the Nor-thern Anglers’ Association has water from Marsden Wood to Jackson’s Bank Wood with permits from G Wilson, 11 Guildford Avenue, Chorley. In fact, this association controls most Ribble sections from here down through Preston, though there is a lengthy stretch of left-bank fishing available below Liverpool Road bridge. The Wigan and District AA issues day tickets for stretches on the Rivers Ribble and Wyre.
