Stour (Suffolk)

The Suffolk Stour rises on the borders of Cambridgeshire and Essex near Haverhill. From Wixoe to its estuary at Manningtree, it forms the border between Suffolk and Essex. It is a coarse fish river offering all the major species except barbel. From Wixoe the river flows to Sudbury and then enters Constable country via Dedham and Flat-ford Mill, the latter being the subject of one of the artist’s most famous paintings. Occasional sea trout are caught in the lower reaches. Ticket facilities can only be described as fair for most of the river is association controlled. A number of these associations operate open membership. Rod Licence: AWA (Essex Rivers Division)
