Spawned in the Lammermuir Hills, the Tyne flows about 25 miles through East Lothian into the North Sea near Dunbar.

This is basically a trout water with plenty of public fishing available but it does take runs of sea trout in the later months of the year.

The Tyne has suffered from pollution over the past few years and although steps have been taken to combat this menace there is little doubt that migratory fishing as well as brown trout fishing would improve immensely if this hazard was removed from a very attractive little river.

The river also has a reputation for big roach but extensive netting operations have reduced the population of these fish. Fish of 2 lbs are still reported though stringent restrictions are imposed on those fishing for them. SOS: Feb 11-Aug 26 (Net); Feb 1-Oct 31 (R&L)
