Runs into the Firth below Dalbeattie and day or weekly ticket salmon, sea trout, and trout permits are available to the general public at various points – and at moderate charges.
It is in no way a spring salmon fishing river although the trouting can be quite good in the earlier months. Migratory sport begins to pick up in May with the first of the sea trout and then the summer and autumn runs hopefully surging in from the Solway.
Sandwiched between the Dee and the Nith this attractive little water is basically a summer and late autumn salmon river, the season continuing until the end of November.
