This river ru ns for a distance of only 12 miles. Issuing from the western end of Ennerdale Water it winds a somewhat tortuous course through Egremont and Beckermet to reach the Irish Sea at Sellafield close to the Calder estuary. In addition to brown trout it attracts runs of salmon and sea trout. Salmon can go 20 lb and are best in May. Sea trout, occasionally double figure fish, are best from June to September.
